Yes! Yes!
The lukewarm support for the second Yes calls to mind the words of our national poet:
"To sell our birth right for a purse of gold/ Oh, parcel of Rogues for a nation."
Here’s my own parcel of rogues. An
apt choice for this momentous day. A different kind of ethnic cuisine today,
with a vegetarian version of an old east coast favourite. The traditional
version carries with it a high risk of Creuzfeldt Jakob Syndrome.
8oz. Coarse oatmeal
4oz. Vegetable suet
2 large onions, thinly sliced
1 egg
2 tsp. Ground sage
2 tsp. Ground thyme
Seasoning to taste
Roast the oatmeal in a dry pan until golden. Mix with the
other ingredients.
Tie the lot up in a "clout".
Boil in a large pan of water for 1 1/ 2 hours.
Cool. Untie. Slice.
Serve fried in olive oil, with a whisky-infused tomato sauce.
Or as part of breakfast.
Or, presumably, battered with chips.
Don’t forget to vote. Remember, people died for your enfranchisement. And not too far away, either (the Paisley weavers).
