Yes! Yes! YES!
I’m afraid I don’t have many Scottish veggie recipes. Well, none that are exciting. Scottish cuisine seems to be centred around dead animals, often wild ones. I do have a recipe for vegetarian haggis, but, frankly, its nowhere near as good as McSweens. I do have a few Welsh recipes, inherited from my grandma, so look out for them next week.
Meanwhile, I hope you will accept this celebratory dessert
from a Scot of English ethnic origin.
Good dark chocolate, with as high a cocoa solids content as possible. I suggest
"Chocolat Menier". Available from Safeway. Look in the Home Baking
section.
Break up and place in a pan with muscovado sugar, butter, and a little water. Boil until fudgey.
Serve with good quality vanilla ice cream. Top with toasted almonds. Mr. Mackie was on R4 the other day, saying he was voting No No. However, his product is just too damned good to boycott.

On a sadder note, I was unaware while typing African
recipes earlier this week that Fela Kuti, the great Nigerian dissident and
exponent of political Hi-Life, had died last month. A great man, constantly
in and out of prison on trumped up charges. Amongst his most notable exploits
was the time the military government accused him of living off immoral earnings,
maintaining that his chorus of female backing singers were prostitutes. So
he married them. All of them. Anyway, check out his "Army Arrangement"
or "International Thief Thief."
