Dear Foodies.
Today I am pleased to introduce a new member. Let’s all extend a gustatory
welcome to David Love.
Love, David.
This one’s a good’UN Adapted from Scotland On Sunday, week before last.
De-seed and peel a pumpkin or squash, and cut the flesh into half inch-ish chunks. Incidentally, does anyone know of an easy way to peel a pumpkin? Last night I spent half an hour wrestling with a Kaboka squash and a potato peeler.
Cut a medium onion and four or so tomatoes into chunks. Saute in a little olive oil. Then add a thinly sliced chilli and a couple of crushed garlic cloves, a thinly sliced red pepper and some salt. After a few minutes, add the pumpkin. Toss a little. Then add a drained can of black-eyed peas and a little water - but not too much. Cover the pan and cook gently until the pumpkin is tender. If necessary, boil off any excess liquid. Add a handful of chopped coriander leaves. Serve with rice.

I see the students are on strike today. The Nation grinds to a halt!
Seriously, though. I don’t really care much about fox-hunting. Obviously I don’t fancy it myself, and people who enjoy tearing animals apart are total bastards - but then its hardly the most important issue facing our society. On the other hand, when you have a government which isn’t even prepared to take a moral stand on something as trivial and uncontroversial as hunting, then why should we expect them to retain the right to a free education?. Or keep medicines affordable? Or support struggling loan parents? Etc. etc. etc.
A bit of Jewish theology for you: Dietary laws seem silly at first sight. But they force one to make moral choices on a daily basis. So when one is forced with a real moral dilemma, one is used to taking a stance.
Hasta La Revolucion!
Che.
