Dead simple this one.
Take some halloumi cheese (from a Safeway near you). Slice.
Whack it on a grill. Drizzle with olive oil. Strictly optional: Also add a
few pickled chillis - of the long, mild kind, available from middle eastern
shops. Slit them lengthways to let the brine out.
Grill until brown (halloumi and optional chillis both).
Make into a sandwich. using either Pitta - or, as I increasingly do these days, French bread.
Garnish with:
Tomatoes,
Thinly sliced mild onions,
Cucumber. Peeled and sliced quite thick, in the Greek style.
***** The Tall Droll *****
Last night, I was pleased to spot a sitcom plagiarising a line from the immortal
Chic Murray. (Remember to adopt a Chic Murray voice while reading this. It
might not come over well in an E-mail. on account of I can't use Italics.)
"Now, I don't swim. I can swim. I just don't have much cause to do
so in the normal run of things."
Other favourite Chic-isms:
"So there I was lying in the gutter. A man stopped and asked 'What's the matter?
Did you fall over?' So I said 'No. I've a bar of toffee in my back pocket
and I was just trying to break it."
"So I gave him a wave. Actually, it was more of a half wave, because I only half know him."
"He started talking to me about this and that - about which I know very little."
